Our first ever family camping trip

We stopped at Bow-Edison on our way to Fort Ebey. Let's just say it's changed a whole lot since the last time I drove through there. So charming, so full of fantastic, artistic (and artisanal) things.
Our constant-carb-cravers were instantly enamored with Breadfarm.
Sweet treats eaten on a bench outside.
Edward R. Murrow quote -- I had no idea the famous journalist graduated from Edison High School.
We also stopped at Deception Pass, since Clare had never been.
This was our first camping trip, so we made it easy on ourselves by eating out at a charming restaurant in nearby Coupeville.
Would have been cooler if there were an "L" in there. :)
Coupeville was adorable.

Watching Michael set up camp. For someone who had never done it before, he sure seemed to know what he was doing.
We walked a short distance from our campsite to the bluffs above the Sound.
Seaplanes passing by.
These three brave souls put on their headlamps and explored through the old gunnery at Fort Ebey. It freaked me right out, but walking (quickly) through the cold, pitch-black passages felt really nice on a warm afternoon.
We then headed out on the beach trail, only to find it a long, long slog. About 30 minutes in (and still no beach in sight, though we could hear it!), we turned around and headed back to camp.
Look like they've been sleeping in tents their whole lives.
Michael found a cool shortcut from camp to another bluff trail. I was the only one who felt nervous and vertigo-y. May have had something to do with all the "Falling Can Be Deadly" signs everywhere. Yeesh!
Nice view from the bluffs of our old friend Mount Rainier.
Our cute little campsite.
S'mores!
The boys manned the campfire while Clare and I ran back to the bluff to take in the sunset.

My little tree climber.

We had a good night, very quiet, very cozy -- and then woke up to another gorgeous day.
Xander: "See Mom, they do have wifi!" (Still laughing over this one.)
Headed to the bluff first thing after waking up.
Venturing into the gun battery again. No fear, these two.

We cleaned up our campsite and headed back to Coupeville for breakfast at Knead & Feed before heading back home.

They brought the kids binoculars to use while we waited for our food.
Stopped at Deception Pass again on the way home, this time on the north side, which I'd never explored before.
Campers.
