Cannon Beach

Right after Xander's tournament ended, Clare and I headed straight to Cannon Beach, where Kate, Jessica and Henry (and Uma!) were waiting for us to join them on their Oregon Coast vacation.
The boys joined us later that afternoon.

Our first beach walk was a wet one, but the weather miraculously turned around for the rest of the trip.

Our first of many visits to Haystack Rock!

The kids were not unhappy to be missing a couple days of school. :)

Goofing on the deck outside.

Morning beach walk on our way to the bakery for breakfast.

Bakery boys.

We also went into town and wandered in and out of the shops.

Ocean view from the living room!

We left Xander doing homework (his choice!) and went down to Haystack Rock at low tide to see if we could get close enough to touch it.

"I never thought I could actually touch the rock!"

Tide pool investigators.

(Here's what they were looking at.)

We all headed to another nearby town and hit a local arcade. Xander impressively beat the high score on this basketball game.

Xander's old Oregon Coast favorite: Pig N Pancake. (Clare was not impressed. "Worst bacon I've ever had!")

The boys took off the next morning so Xander could make it to D-Block spring/summer tryouts, but Clare and I got one more day of vacation...
Kate drove us to Astoria for a fun (gorgeous!) day of exploring.

First stop was the Oregon Film Museum, which used to be the County Jail and was the location for the opening jail scene in "The Goonies."

We goofed around and shot a bunch of videos in the museum.

Clare re-creating a scene from "The Shining" (which of course she's never even seen).

Just hanging out in a jail cell.

Jail cell selfie.

Walked around the cute downtown and then had a great lunch.

Just to tease Xander, we stopped at the Nike store on our way back to the beach house and took a photo. "Wish you were here!"

Clare got to take Uma for one last beach walk.

Such a beautiful spot.

The view of the house on the walk back from the beach.

We spent the night watching silly videos and old game shows. Perfect end to a relaxing getaway.

Clare and I said goodbye to Haystack Rock the next morning before heading home.
