Sledge Family Road Trip 2017: Astoria

We got up bright and early on Tuesday morning and headed south. First destination: Astoria!

Stopping for a photo op (and bathroom break) just before crossing the magnificent Astoria–Megler Bridge.

Our hotel room wasn't quite ready, so we headed up to the Astoria Column and climbed the 164-step spiral staircase to the tippy top of this beautiful 1925 structure.

Amazing view of the bridge.

Afterward, we went in search of the Goonies house. We found it, but didn't dare take any photos -- ha!

We also hit the arcade the Clare and I went to with Kate, Jessica and Henry a few months ago.

We had dinner at a really cool brewery -- and randomly ran into folks we know from Bellingham!

Teaching Xander the art of tipping well.

Next stop: Fort Stevens Park to play on the beach and take in the shipwreck of the Peter Iredale on Clatsop Spit, which ran aground during turbulent weather in 1906.

Everyone but me waded out to touch it -- that water was ice cold!
