Sledge Summer Vacation: Days 10 & 11

We made our way back down the coast of Maine in an absolute downpour.

Stopped in the very cute Camden for lunch, and the moment I stepped out of the car I was absolutely drenched.

Luckily, our planned lunch spot was nice and cozy.

One of the big reasons we chose to visit Maine was because we loved the Andrew Wyeth exhibit last year at the Seattle Art Museum. Most of his paintings are of landscapes and places in Maine. There was a lovely collection of his (and has family's) work at the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, also on our way to our final destination.

I don't like beer, but I do like breweries. Michael wanted to stop at this one, Maine Beer Company, in Freeport, because he'd heard great things from a friend and had been enjoying it here and there on our trip.

The kids were excited about the giant pretzels.

When we got to our next home-away-from-home, in South Portland, we were greeted by an array of amazing baked goods from the bakery next door and an expensive bottle of bubbles. You gotta love the personal Airbnb touch!

Calling dibs on bedrooms.

Found a great barbecue joint just down the street.

Attempting to sneak through a secret passageway between bedrooms.

We got a slow start the next morning.

Xander making is bed, of course -- even though no one asked him to. Ha!

Clare trying Dunkin Donuts hot chocolate for the first time. (Xander had two places he HAD to visit while on vacation and Dunkin Donuts was one of them. He now declares their hot chocolate far superior to Starbucks.)

Lunch in Portland at Nosh.

We drove to Brunswick to see our friends the Puljus and they took us on a lovely walking tour of the Bowdoin College campus, where Michael works.

Adelaide, Piper and Michael.

We popped into a couple of nice museums at Bowdoin: Adelaide's favorite is the Peary–MacMillan Arctic Museum.

We also strolled through the Bowdoin College Museum of Art. It was a bit warm that day, so it was nice to get the breaks in air conditioning.

More football!

Clare and their new puppy Rosie.

That night, Michael and Adelaide drove into Portland to go to a Portland Sea Dogs game with Michael and Xander. It's a Boston Red Sox farm team.

Xander snapped this photo of Tim Tebow (former NFL quarterback) who is now trying to break into major league baseball.
