Sledge Summer Vacation: Day 12

We wanted to get in one more beach day for Clare, so we drove about 20 minutes from our place to Crescent Beach State Park on Cape Elizabeth.

In her happy place.

Back to our neighborhood for a yummy pizza lunch.

We explored downtown Portland a big -- the Old Port area. It's adorable and I wish we'd had more time to see it all.

Xander had one more must-visit spot on his list...

Holy Donut!

I don't even like donuts all that much, but it did not disappoint.

Yum. (Mine's the one covered in coconut.)

The kids favorite insult is "trash" -- "That game of Fortnite you just played was trash." "That outfit you're wearing is trash." Naturally, when we came upon this graffiti in Portland, they had to pose.

Trying to get her tough face on.

There it is.

Stopped at Fort Williams Park for a little more beach time.

We left the deck door open for too long and a few flies came in. The boys were on it...

Victory! No more flies.

After an entire vacation of restaurants that were great but decidedly un-fancy (because the kids will basically only eat hamburgers; Clare won't even eat pizza anymore), Michael and I chose a very nice neighborhood joint and enjoyed a wonderful meal with French onion soup, caramelized Brussel sprouts with goat cheese, filet mignon, and duck. (The kids had fancy hamburgers.)

Followed by, of course, some football in our back yard.

We'd not yet tried the ice cream place a couple doors down from our place. Xander considered all the options very carefully.

And then we discovered Willard Park, literally a couple minutes down the street from our apartment. We nearly missed it!

And a little more football to close out our last night of vacation -- with a view of the fantastic Scratch Baking Co., a favorite spot during our stay.
